N10 TRAFICANT ART TOP   PREV   NEXT

(TV)
Ex-Congressman Jim Traficant is
reaching out from federal prison to
try and help a struggling local art
gallery.
21 News Reporter Glenn Stevens
has a preview of a new display of
Traficant's art.

The Ohio River Arts Gallery in
East LIverpool is a small gallery
that hopes to draw big crowds
starting this Thursday with it's
display of seven new Traficant art
works, including four with a signed
message from Traficant.
14:09:58:22
IT SAYS EAST LIVERPOOL ART
GALLERY MUSEUM GALLERY,
GOD BLESS, JIM.
All the donated pieces are for sale,
and all proceeds will go to benefit
the art gallery and it's art
education programs.
14:16:01:11
OUR LEASE IS UP AT THE END
OF THE MONTH AND SOME
DECISIONS ARE GOING TO
HAVE TO BE MADE WHETHER
WE STAY IN BUSINESS OR
NOT.
Traficant donated the pieces
through his correspondence art
teacher Sybille Oelschlager, who
told me today by phone that Jim
hopes it will give the gallery a
financial boost.
Herrod says even though prison
officials have allowed Traficant to
paint again, his supplies are
limited.
14:10:37:06
HE DOESN'T HAVE CANVASSES,
THIS IS A FILE FOLDER.
Some Traficant paintings have
sold for up to $3,000 - and Herrod
concedes that it's probably more
the name than the art.
14:15:18:28
YOU COULD COMPARE HIM TO
GRANDMA MOSES AND OTHERS
WHO IN THEIR OWN RIGHT
FOR WHATEVER REASON
BECAME POPULAR.
In conjunction with the art sale, the
gallery will be offering information
from Traficant supporters.
14:17:28:16
ANYBODY WHO'S INTERESTED
CAN PICK UP SOME
INFORMATION ABOUT HIS TRIAL
AND A TRAFICANT BUMPER
STICKER.
The Traficant art will be on display
through the end of the month at
the gallery on Washington Street in
East LIverpool.
